Studioplex is the name for a little experiment our studio is running this semester. We will be using our studio space as a lab to test out different methods of learning enhancement. We are using the Googleplex as inspiration for the name. You could think of it as an experiment in what makes a place fun to work in. We already have a ping pong table, a funny looking decorative tree, and a table with candy on it. Off to a great start I think. More posts will pop up as our research continues.
One of the ideas being tossed around is a way of quantifying things like how much ping pong is played and how many people visit our studio to use our facility. It is also important to know what we all think is the worst performing program in the room and the best performing programs. We will define a program as a set of objects that creates something people can use or do when they are not working. The programs as I understand them will be something like this.
Ping pong program
visual arts program - wall division
visual arts program - furniture division
visual arts program - desk location division
visual arts program - ceiling fixtures division
food program
social activities program
Other programs may appear as they are thought of, but making each of these programs successful will make the Studioplex an enjoyable place to do work and a fun place to hang out.
