Battery Swap Station On HW6 and Burton Creek

12:24 AM
Now that our site has been developed into a park with trails, zones for grilling, playing sports, and exploring nature, and a small nuclear plant,  it is time to get down to the business of designing the filling station that the whole site owes its creation to.  We have in place a system that draws not only foot and bike traffic to the convienice store, but also car traffic along HWY 6 that will access the battery swap station.  There is a fundamental difference in the two types of traffic and one main idea I am playing with is that these two types of users will have an experience independent of each other in my design unless they deliberately choose to interact with the other type of traffic. For example, customers that walk in from the trails wont notice the filling station aspect of the complex because of the way elements are placed on the site.  Also, those who are looking to just get their battery replaced will not be inclined to go into the store but will be able to do what they came to do and then leave quickly.

Since the prime ground slopes towards the river and into the 100 year floodplain, a system of raising the building is going to be important to the reality of the whole design.  Here are some pictures of things I have been getting inspiration from.

Here are some of my first sketches of the project  I drew them on a composite map of the site and a section cut through the site that was created digitally.

Still in the preliminary stages
